(The opinions on shock collars for dog)?

I have a boxer that is 50 pounds a runner as soon as I open the door removed. I am concidering shock collar, but because of the price I would buy it and not work. anyone use one? .. What do you think? and what breed of dog? also what brand do you recommend?
