potty training a dog

All dogs are in a sense, blind from birth. It takes a few days to a puppy's eyes open after birth. However, the pups born with their other senses well developed. Their sense of smell, for example, leads to the bosom of his mother shortly after birth. However, dogs can lose sight of many ways and for many reasons. Sometimes the dogs lose their sight because of selective breeding practices. Sometimes, the dogs start life with an excellent view and then lose sight due to injury. But other dogs may lose their sight because of glaucoma and cataracts. And, of course, old age can cause a dog to lose his sight.

But the view is not the only well-developed sense, which are blessed with the dogs. Dogs have excellent senses of hearing and smell. It seems that when sight is lost, the other senses more acute. Blind dogs, or even those with some loss of sight, never be allowed to run loose outdoors. They ALWAYS must be leashed or fenced.

Remember that when you start training a dog to use other senses than sight to figure out what you want him to do. Use your voice to give instructions and using a whistle as well. You dog will also use their sense of smell. Always use the same cologne, perfume or lotion shaving for your dog to be able to easily identify where you are.

You need to be sure your home is safe for a blind dog. If you has stairs, use baby gates. Make sure outside doors are always closed and that the dog can not accidentally outside. Finally, attach a bell to the collar of his blind dog, so you can locate it if needed.
