American Bulldog Stubborness and Strength?

I have a ten month old American Bulldog named Bruiser. He is gorgeous! He has a brindle body, a white head, white socks, brindle ears, and a brindle patch over one eye. He is a great dog, except for one problem. I take him for a 35 minute walk every morning and he pulls on the leash like crazy. He refuses to stop pulling, and the tighter I hold the leash the more he pulls. If I try to turn the other way to get him to stop, he will buckle down, and with all his strength, knock me flying! He weighs 95 pounds and is about at his adult weight I’m guessing. I weigh 122 and don’t hold a candle to this dog’s strength! He’s pulled me to the ground and drug me several yards…more than once. I don’t know what to do! He is just so stubborn…AND STRONG! I walk him with a harness and flexi-lead. How do I stop his pulling, or minimize his strength? I just can’t match it! I refuse to use inhumane methods (choke and prong collars). I’d really appreciate any advice.

Well depending on what American Bulldog you got ( Johnson or Scott ) will determine if he’s almost done growing or not. If he’s a Scott then he will most likely be around 23 – 29 inches tall at the shoulders and about 85-110 pounds full grown maybe a bit more. If he’s a Johnson American Bulldog then he will be anywhere from 95-140 pounds maybe a little more and about 22-29 inches at the shoulder. The American Bulldog is considered the strongest dog breed besides the Dogo Argentino. American Bulldogs can pull over Ten Thousand pounds. Most dogs will pull on the leash as like a game so the more you pull or tense up the more they will do the same. Instead of you tugging the leash back wards pull it toward you to the sides. If you pull backward he’ll pull forward. He’s trying to say that he’s Pack Leader which is NOT a good thing. To learn more about Pack Dominance look into Cesar Milan The Dog Whisperer.

P.S. Most dogs don’t stop growing until their about 2 years old. BUT most Large or Giant breeds don’t stop until about 3-5 years.
