How deep do you have to bury an underground fence?

I’m talking about an electronic wire that you bury at your yard’s boundary and the dog wears a collar that beeps to warn him before he crosses the boundary and gets a corrective stimulus. How deep do you have to bury the wire?
I know it will be in the instructions, but wanted to find out as part of my preliminary research before I talk to my husband.

About 3 inches. It can’t be too far down because the collar has to read the signal. We used a trencher to put in the wire and it dug a perfect depth.
