i found a dog with a collar but all it had was a rabies tag what do i do ?

i found a dog yesterday and we took it into oour home cause it needs help. it had a collar but it only had a rabies tag on it with the license number how do we find the owner? and can you get anything from the serial number?

Most rabies tags have the name of the vet office it was received at, along with a phone number. Even if it just has the name of the vets office, you can look it up and call them. They will ask for the number, and then look up the owner for you. I’ve never seen a rabies tag that didn’t display the clinic where the shots were received at. If it does have no contact information, though, I would just call a local vet’s office and ask them about it. Maybe they can look up that information for you instead.
