Dog Collar With Bells

Knowing how to spot UTI symptoms in dogs is something that is very important.
Unfortunately more and more dogs (and cats) are being diagnosed with UTI infections. This is believed to be due to low quality foods such as highly processed canned and dried foods which contain very little (sometimes no) nutritional value.
Symptoms of Dog UTI
So what are the symptoms of urinary tract infections in canines?
All dogs will exhibit slightly different signs and behaviors but there are some very common lines running through them – discomfort, pain and hesitation to urinate. Here is what to look out for:
- Urinating in inappropriate places (e.g on the couch or other locations where it does not usually occur)
- Weight loss
- Fatigue and lethargy
- Vomiting
- Incontinence (unable to control urination)
- Increased urination
- Foul smelling urine
- Dark or cloudy urine
- Excessive genital licking
- Tenderness in the lower abdomen/bladder area
- Painful / straining urination such as a yelp or whine
- Excessive thirst
- Crystals in the urine
- Blood or pus in the urine – a very serious sign
All the above symptoms should ring alarm bells in dog owners. UTI can be extremely serious if not treated right away. It can lead to conditions like kidney stones and other infections in the organs.
If your dog displays or has shown any of the above dog UTI signs then its time to visit your local vet.
Your vet will give your dog a course of antibiotics. These will clear up the initial infection. After that you must remain vigilant and adhere to a healthy diet and natural, safe ways of maintaining prime urinary tract health in your canine friend.
