French mastiff is one of the most ancient French breed of dogs. This type of dog is strong, powerful and imposing. They have a muscular body but with a pleasant temperament. This breed can be trained to do things unbelievable, from using their muscles to pulling carts or hauling heavy objects, to guarding flocks and protecting castles.

This breed of dog is short with a heavy broad head. This dog is said to have the biggest head in the canine world. The male dog has bigger head compared to the female dog. When you view the head of the French bull mastiff from the front or even from above you will see a trapezoidal shape.

This dog has a red or black mask that can be identified from the rest of the coat which is around and under the nose including the eye rims and lips. The upper lips hang heavily down above the lower jaw. The weight of this dog must be balanced with regard to their overall type and the conformation standards of the breed. The height should be until 27 inches only higher than this will be considered a mistake.

Further, a French mastiff is well balanced, well-built and a huge dog with a dominant builds. This dog comes full of muscles and does not possesses bigger height. They are most set in low ground. The life span of this dog is averaging between 6 to 10 years of age, but there are records that show that a French mastiff can last until 15 years. This dog is not aggressive and possesses a loyal and devoted attitude towards his master. It can also be a good guard dog because it possesses courage and vigilance despite of not being aggressive.

French mastiff was described to be a very independent dog and likes to make its own decisions, but with the proper teaching and training, the mastiff dog will look and will ask permission from its master to act on its instinct.
