Dog Collar Mesh
dogs and collars?
Our dog played with a relative’s dog one day and our dog’s lower jaw got caught under the mesh of the other dog’s collar. Our dog is 100 + pounds and the relative’s dog is 50 pounds. Our dog twisted and pulled trying to get out of the mess but was choking the other dog in the process. The collar had twisted so that it was too tight for us to unbuckle by the time we grasped what was happening. Finally we were able to cut it but by that time the relative’s dog had passed out and her toungue was swollen, black, and hanging out of her mouth. She almost died. We thank God we were home to prevent that. I had never heard of this happening before but when narrating this story to a friend, she told me her sister came home from work one night to the same situation only her one dog had died and was being pulled around by the other. Are there any collars on the market that would prevent this from happening?
There are.
Many products now have a “quick snap release” buckle on the collar that will unbuckle should the dog get caught on something, ect.
I’ll try to find some examples…
EDIT:
Here’s a link explaining about the collars, how they work, and where to purchase one (called “breakaway collars” nowadays):

Here’s where you can find another type for purchase:

Or, if you’re crafty, here’s a buckle you can sew or apply to a collar yourself:
