How do I stop my dog from barking so much in the house?

I have a small yorkshire terrier who lives inside with us. He is like a family member. He will forever bark at the lightest sound and scares my two year old daughter. I don’t believe in shock collars or muzzles. Is there a training technique anyone knows of that I can try. I am willing to try anything except the two I mentioned above. Thanks for your help!

try making a shhh sound. they seem to respond to that. I take a rolled up paper bag and swat it on my hand or something(NEVER HIT THE DOG) pretty much it just makes a sound that snaps them out of it….. ummm not sure. you could try using a “clicker” which also makes sound.
