Dog Collar Heavy Duty
What type of machine would be best for sewing through nylon webbing?
I know that you would need a heavy duty needle, like a 16 or 18 denim needle. How much will the machine matter?
I have a very nice Brother machine (however, I left it in the U.S.), so I need to purchase another, what would be the best? The most heavy-duty items I will be sewing are nylon dog collars, other sewing will be simply through satin fabric and velcro. Any suggestions on a type of machine? I don’t want to spend too much.
Thank you
You’ll need a machine that can accomodate the thickness of the webbing… something like a Singer 15 might do just fine if it’s not too thick. (If it is too thick, the raised presser foot opens the upper tension, so the thread has no tension on it.)
Personally, when I’ve got something that’s too heavy for one of my machines, I just take it to the local upholstery shop — they’ve got the machines that can handle it, and if I don’t mind having it sewn with whatever color is already on the machine, the charge is very minimal. IIRC, the last time the charge was a plate of brownies.
