dog harness yorkie
how to train a dog walking beside me?

So my Yorkie is almost 4 years and I stumbled upon a page saying my dog should walk next to me instead of infront on me. So today I took him out for a walk. He was excited and pulling i have the chest harness because the leash around his throat chocked him. i made him walk next to me on the left. if he pulled to go furrther i would stop and pull him next to me. when i stopped i told him to sit but most of the time he wouldnt listen. i had to mock a deep voice or put his butt down. he would be distracted somehow.

so my question is

should i go back to the neck leash? or wait until he has been fully trained?

how do enforce I am the pack leader and tell him to sit and i dont have to say it 5 times

thank you

Be consistent. When training a dog to walk next to you, do just as you did today. When he starts pulling, stop walking and make him come stand (or sit) next to you. To help with getting him to sit bring along a few dog treats and give him a little chunk of one every time he listens. If he doesn’t listen, then no treat. Make sure to give lots of praise as well as treats for good behavior. The more often you do this the quicker it will sink in. Two walks a day is good.

Good luck!
